World Meteorological Day 2024: CDM Students win big in two contests

To celebrate World Meteorological Day, the Department of Meteorology at the University of Dhaka hosted a significant event, titled "World Meteorological Day 2024: At the Frontline of Climate Action". This event, co-organized by the South Asian Meteorological Association (SAMA), Bangladesh Chapter, National Oceanographic and Maritime Institute (NOAMI), and the Department of Meteorology itself, aimed to raise awareness about climate action. 


The event featured an offline debate competition alongside three online contests: a Photography Contest, a Creative Writing Contest, and an Open Innovation Challenge. Notably, students from the Department of Climate and Disaster Management (CDM) at Jashore University of Science and Technology made waves in the online contests, capturing attention with their impressive performances. 



Saifun Nahar Disha, a 4th-year CDM student, emerged as the champion in the Creative Content Writing Contest, demonstrating exceptional creativity and insight. Additionally, Atikur Rahman, a 2nd-year student of CDM, distinguished himself as the runner-up in the Photography Contest, capturing the essence of climate action through his lens.



The award-giving ceremony was held at the premises of the Department of Meteorology, University of Dhaka. During the event, Dr. Md Zillur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Dhaka, presented the awards to the winners. Saifun Nahar Disha proudly received the certificates and crest on behalf of both herself and Atikur Rahman. 


The CDM Department is exceptionally proud of its students' achievements.
