
CDM students Attended the 9th International Conference on Water and Flood Management organized by Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM), BUET

Department of Climate and Disaster Management (CDM), JUST has attended the 9th International Conference on Water and Flood Management 2023 (ICWFM 2023) with a great excitement and pleasure which was held in Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), Dhaka and organized by the Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
This conference aims to serve as a common platform for bringing together the most recent developments in different fields for example, hydrology, hydraulics, morphology, atmospheric science, climate, environmental pollution, ecosystem, agriculture, disaster, vulnerability, risk, gender, livelihood, and poverty. The central theme of ICWFM-2023 is ‘Climate Extremes and Resilient Development’.
Two faculty members (Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Professor, and Chairman, and Md. Arif Chowdhury, Assistant Professor) along with 16 students from the two batches of the department participated in this conference. Faculty members and students presented their research work in different sessions: Flood Damage Mitigation and Resilience, Transboundary Water Conflicts and Opportunities for Cooperation in Common/ Mutual Interests, Sustainable Livelihoods and Livelihood Security, Harmonizing Autonomous and Planned Adaptations, Vulnerability to Natural Hazards and Risk, Transformative Adaptation for Climate Change, and Integrated Assessment of Social-Ecological Systems (SES) for Sustainable Livelihoods.
Students had a realization that this conference will flourish their knowledge and concept on different issues like vulnerability assessment, loss and damage, governance, livelihood vulnerability, etc. and thrive their eagerness to attend such kind of conference in future.
