
CDM Arranged Disaster Talk at its Premises for the First Time

Department of Climate and Disaster Management (CDM), JUST has arranged a discussion session for the very first time where all students and faculties of the department were present. Two students of the 3rd year (Session 2019-2020) presented two different disasters that had occurred in very recent times. Nishat Otosy Islam and Shohanur Rohman talked in depth about the Libya flood (happened on 10 September, 2023) and Morocco earthquake (occurred on 8 September, 2023) respectively on their occurrence, causes, effects, response and lesson learnt for Bangladesh.
This kind of program has been initiated first time in the department where any student from any batch can participate voluntarily to present the recent disasters around the world. The program will be continuing to held twice in each month. Nafisa Nuari Islam, Assistant Professor of CDM has facilitated this program and coordinated the students to carry out the program properly. This program aims to engage all the students with recent events and occurrences around the world regarding disaster management and climate change. CDM department believes that these kinds of programs will enrich the knowledge of both the students and faculties.
After the presentation, a discussion session was held where students asked several questions in relevant to the presentation. Initially the program named as ‘Disaster Talk’ and an attractive name was proposed to students. In the beginning of the program, Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman Chairman of CDM has inaugurated with welcome speech and closed the session with thanks to all.
